It's finally here and I'm finally posting (again). Break out your Vuvuzela and put on your team kit and scarf! The World Cup is the best month of sports if you ask me. It's the only time when I can go into a pub at 8am and not be judged. Ah yes, pour me a pint and bring me an English breakfast.
Thirty-two teams going after one odd looking gold trophy. A few days into the tournament and already there are memorable moments.
A great moment for the host nation as Bafana Bafana played with the passion and emotion it takes to move on in the tournament.
Match Day 2: USA vs. England: A Tie Is A Win!
England got off to a flying start as England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard scored the game's first goal in the fourth minute. After the goal, the US seemed to settle down and play liked they belonged on the same pitch as the Three Lions. A scary moment in the 29th minute as Emile Heskey slid into US Goalie Tim Howard's ribs. He was down for awhile, as US supporters looked on in disbelief. Rumor is Tim had a painkiller injection at halftime.
We can't avoid the elephant in the room with the awesome British accent. We must discuss "The Goal." It came in the 40th minute. Clint Dempsey who plays for Fulham in the English Premier League, twist and turned outside the box and then let go a seemingly harmless shot. That's when "it" happened. English goaltender, Robert Green will now live in infamy for one of the most embarrassing moments. For the US fans, the best way to describe it is Bill Buckner at Shea Stadium during the 1986 World Series. Yup, it was that bad. Butterfingers, if you will. Here is an amazing reenactment courtesy of guardian.co.uk.
Well that's all for now. Stay tuned.
